Christmas

It has been raining like crazy in LA. I’m glad I got the heavy raincoat, I have sure used it.

Christmas was nice. We went over to the Gould’s home with our investigator Carlos. We had a nice dinner and a nice time. It was good being able to phone the family.

Dad, you’re right. You are so watched over and protected. That metal thing could have easily gone through the windshield and hurt someone instead of leaving the huge gash on the hood.

Thanks for the prayers.

New Companion

Hi

Things have been going the same. Carlos is doing good and progressing well.

My knee is doing well now that the Storm has passed.

That is a good idea if someone says that they are busy this season to leave them with a message about the Savior.

The Friends you meet while Tracting.

Malibu sunset

Hey, things are going great.

Well we have a new investigator, his name is Carlos but he only speaks Spanish. He is golden and ready to be baptized. I am excited for him. Its a good thing Elder Hodell speaks Spanish.

Carlos could only work on Sunday and Saturday but he just quit his job so now he is full speed to being baptized.

we are doing good. I think for the most we work well together. Elder Hodell is going home in March. Yea I think I can learn from him. I agree that this is the time for service its a great time. We are still doing some service but not as much.

yes we watched the first presidency devotional. We watched it over at a members house where Carlos is staying. She is the house keeper for Tanya Tucker and I had to help with the a/v stuff there so that was fun. The devotional was good.

Leah I took some Malibu sunset pictures for you.

Thanksgiving

Hey,
I've been good. Transfers came but I'm still in Malibu. President wanted Elder Bigler to train again so I have a new comp his name is Elder Hodell he is from South Jordan, he is cool. Elder Bigler went over to Downy.
Our thanksgiving was great. We gave a blessing to some people and then had dinner with the Hall family.

Hey, I have been fine and I am doing well.

Well, we had zone conference and president baker said that we will no longer have a big book of rules and that we will use the missionary handbook more. We will still have some rules, just not as many. That is something new this week and we have someone with a baptismal date for the first week in December which cool that we have another one.

I don't know what I will be doing for thanksgiving because transfers are the day before so we will see. It will be a normal day for us.

Life is good

I have been good but tired. I think it’s from waking up at 5:45 am every morning to play soccer. The life of a missionary is still good.
We get to attend the temple once a quarter. The temple was great as always I saw the other movie this time it was good. Yea I think we are blessed to have the temple so close to us in our mission it’s great.
Well Kevin is not going very well. Just kidding he is doing great he got baptized on the 31st, it was good.
No new investigators this week. That is how it is in Malibu sometimes.
Well on Monday we helped someone in the ward out. He is working to get back to the temple and we helped him with some landscaping work and another member’s home.
The weather is good I think it’s hot but it’s OK. I drive but not very much, which sucks but o well. Sometimes the traffic is OK but other times it really SUCKS!!! It’s sometimes bad at 6 am.

Saturday while Leah and I were at "In and Out", there were 2 missionaries leaving in their car. Leah was amazed to see 1 of the Elders be a guide and help his companion back up. I explained to Leah that you and every other missionary do the same thing when they are in a driving area. Leah was impressed.
Yup that is a rule that one needs to be out of the car and back the other one up.

Halloween was a little slow Saturday night, it was raining for a lot of the evening, so we did not have many kids come by. Needless to say we have lots of candy left over.

That is good that you have candy left over so you can send it to me LOL. That is good that Bella has not eaten any yet.
That is cool that you guys are in a musical I want to be in one on my side of it anyway.

Yea we had dinner at the Wuehlers last night and they said that she sent you something and that you emailed back. They liked it. Thanks.

Last Week

Last week there was someone at our church and we found out he was not a member. We sat with him during sacrament but did not talk to him much. Then this week we talked to him some more and found out that he is not a member. He wanted to learn more because his dad is a member but not active so one day he just decided to come to church.
The cool part is that we will be teaching him tomorrow at the VC.

On p-day we usually have an activity (lately we’ve tried to go on hikes) and then go shopping and do laundry. After that we go out and do service work. So that is our p-day.

Missionary Life is Good

Hello how is missionary life these days? Was this an eventful week?

Hi missionary life is going good it seems like its going fast. The last few weeks have seemed like they have been going slow with the work.
we did service today in the temple and we were up in the assembly hall moving chairs. We had with us the ZL's and the AP's so that was fun. The assembly hall is BIG and cool (the assembly hall in the Los Angeles Temple is the size of a football field)

Did you receive your package with all the misc items?

Yes I did receive the package thanks.

What do you think of missionary life?

I like the life. Its good.

Do you feel your testimony is growing?

Yes.

Have you been on splits lately, have you had any more good Mexican food?

Nope.

When do you get your driving privileges?

I have them now, I have had them for a few weeks now.

How is the bike?

Good, I haven’t ridden it much but that one time.

How is the UCLA ward, do you attend Sacrament meeting there as well as the Pacific Palisades ward?

We try to go to both wards. The UCLA ward is ok. Slow but ok.

Do you have transfers coming up next week?

Nope. About transfers I have heard that I will be going the Watts area and that there are a lot of drive-by shootings. That will be different so we will see.
Just kidding, I really don’t know what is up yet with transfers.

General Conference

This last week was I think really slow, so no really good investigators stories.
General Conference was good. We went to the stake center on 3400 Sawtelle blvd. Some talks I liked were Elder Bednar’s talk on the Holy Ghost, of course. Elder Uchtdorf was great. Saturday morning was powerful for me. But for the most part it was all good. It was great the way President Monson announced 5 more temples right at the beginning. You know he is a true prophet of God. I too, liked president Monson’s talk on missionary work.
I missed watching conference in HD at the house or even in 16:9.
That is good to hear that Leah had a chance to go to the Afternoon session of conference. I’m glad she took good notes. I need to work on my note taking skills.
After priesthood the ward went out to eat and we went out with them and went to a Japanese place. It was a bit different but it was good. I had rice and egg and chicken, so yup. Hope all is going well.
It was raining this week on P-day so we didn’t go on a hike, but I love the area we are serving in.

Well we have some more investigators. One has said he would be baptized but he needs more time to get to know stuff. He is just seeking peace in his life now. We also have some that look good. The current investigators are going very slow but they have their agency so yea.
I am doing well now. It’s a runny nose with a cough. I just today bought some off brand Zyrtec so I need to take that or maybe I will just wait it out.
Elder Bigler and I are doing well. Futbol is good I think I am getting better at goalie.
The GPS is great the only thing is I want it to have the traffic for the PCH but it is great still. That is good to hear about bob and Leah. I say hi to Nancy too.
O yea, I got some Santa Barbara mango salsa. It’s really good. Dad you should send me some ghost pepper seeds and I will grow them. I will dare my comps to try a bit lol. Well, got to go, not much time and again I have to write president so love you all and talk to you later.

Thursday, September 23, 2010

Hey, I am doing well. It’s disappointing, we lost an investigator. We think he got offended in the ward. We taught an 8 year old, to get ready to be baptized yesterday but that has been about it. The work is not fast going but slow. We have got referrals that we need to contact and we are excited to see how they go.
I asked president what the new teaching program was and he said it is the "simplified MTC curriculum".
I think I have baseball cleats but they are doing great for soccer in the morning. They have been a great investment. There are no pictures this time because I left my camera in the car. Well time is short. Bye, love you all. I need to email president still, but yea, bye.

We have another ward

I thought I mentioned to you last week that there was a restaurant-deli-bakery called “Juniors” on Westwood and .25 blocks up from Pico; they had awesome Eclairs. Just thought you would like to know.

We will have to go and try that place some time.

Did you receive the GPS and contents in the box OK? Was the letter more intelligible this time?

I got the GPS. One of the office missionaries said that you came by and dropped it off. I like it its cool! No, the letter was not more readable so I haven't read it yet I will work on it though. I liked all of the stuff in the box. Thanks.

How is missionary life treating you these days, are you enjoying your time? You seem to be fitting in well.

I had to dry my clothes yesterday by air because the dryer was broken. That sucked. We found out after Elder Bigler did some of his wash and I already did mine so that was fun. Yea. Life is going good, ups and downs but all is well, it’s enjoyable.

Is the investigator pool growing? Did the investigator from Malibu ever call back?

So we got a new ward. The UCLA student ward, that is fun, we have to juggle 2 wards but we will see how that goes. First thing is, we have an investigator who should be baptized soon in that ward. We only cover the single men in that ward and there are sisters as well who cover the single women.

Well, I make this quick and say bye my comp doesn't have a computer so bye and talk to you later.

New Technology at the LA Temple Visitor's Center

The LA Temple Visitor's Center has been getting some new technology and of course Elder Waldvogel needed to test it. Anyone can digitally color a picture of the LA Temple and email it home. What a wonderful teaching tool.

Waldo the Wildcat

Waldo the Wildcat decided to try and find Elder Waldvogel's area. He came close.
